IN LOGISTICS, EUROPE IS THE “GARDEN OF PALMAKO”
Besides product development and high-quality manufacture, Palmako AS takes care of the whole logistics chain, from factories to markets, having the best coverage for focus markets: Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Scandinavia, Belgium, Spain, Finland and Estonia. The best coverage means that Palmako is able to arrange home deliveries on behalf of its customers. The rest of Europe is covered either by road or container transport, in some cases even by break-bulk shipping. Overseas destinations are covered mainly by container transport up to the agreed port or container terminal. Annually, Palmako loads in total nearly 400 containers, over 3000 trucks, ships out over 30,000 tons and arranges around 5,000 home deliveries, including adhoc solutions for exhibitions, inhouse shows, sample yards, sales campaigns, etc. Palmako takes care of customs formalities on their end and provides the necessary paperwork for the destination.
Palmako delivers more than timber. The assortment of Palmako garden products is wide and Palmako delivers from the factory directly to central warehouses, shops or timber yards. Combining orders from several customers and markets enables Palmako to transport timber efficiently as well as regularly. The peak sales period of garden timber is spring and summer, but Palmako delivers all year round. Often trucks make many stops based on pre-planned trips and time-slot appointments with customers. Palmako is doing its best to deliver timber when you expect it.
Palmako also has local stock in Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Great Britain and Spain in order to keep required lead times for fast moving products. Palmako thinks it equally important when timber needs to be delivered to dedicated logistics centres or private homes (B2C). Local delivery partners assist our customers’ customers with last mile deliveries, including trucks with a mobile fork-lift or trucks with a crane, depending on the market.
Given that the product is available in Palmako’s plant stock, it’s a matter of 1-3 working days to Scandinavia, 4-6 working days to Central Europe and 6-8 working days for longer distances in Europe. Local home delivery takes approximately two weeks, provided that the product is in local stock. If not, it is transported from Estonia to the stockyard. Smaller items, such as additional articles, samples as well as spare parts, are shipped out with traceable transport.
Some see fence yard, Imprest sees posts; it depends on the perspective. Markets with long traditions of fence yards are often quite far from Estonia. Therefore, Imprest has worked out specific solutions, combining road and scheduled sea transport to reach these markets. Approximately every 10 days there is a scheduled Ro-Ro line to Great Britain, carrying, among other goods, Imprest impregnated posts and fence items on mafi platforms. Shipping with break-bulk requires more patience, but it is even more cost effective. Nevertheless, it is an important method of shipping for Palmako’s customers, besides classical trucking and container transport. Imprest’s impregnated products are popular in Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Glulam as a material expands the use of wood, and with a new production line, Construct has extended the geographical circle in which products can be delivered. Whether it’s in Sweden or Spain, Construct can send glulam products all over Europe, as long as the dimensions fit the classic curtain trailer parameters. With little extra handling , it is also possible to send glued beams in containers. When needed, Construct is able to arrange temporary storage and on-site delivery using either a mobile fork-lift or a truck with a crane. Transit time is more or less the same as for garden timber or somewhat longer depending on the project. Approx. 1-3 working days to Scandinavia, 4-6 working days to Central Europe and 6-8 working days for longer distances in Europe. On-site delivery may require extra time. Smaller orders can be combined with regular trucks for garden timber. But Construct also has dedicated units for trucking as soon as full trailer volume is reached. Within Estonia, telescope trailers of up to 24 metres can be arranged upon request.
Heatit keeps heat on pellet production presses throughout the year to prepare enough to deliver to you when it is cold outside. Packed pellets are normally palletised and can be sent out either with a full trailer or container. Heatit arranges transport to the customer’s warehouse; local distribution is normally arranged by the customer. A full load is more or less 24-26 tons, depending on the mode of transport. Transit time by trucking is the same as for garden timber. With container transport it takes few weeks longer, depending on the destination in Europe. Large volumes can be sent out either in big-bags or even as break-bulk vessel loads. Palmako AS can transport bulk either to Kunda port, where Heatit has stock, or another Estonian port of discharge capable of handling bulk material.
As Palmako produces a variety of timber products, the loads delivered to Europe will be combined so that garden houses, machine-rounded posts, furniture and glulam are transported together. More and more of our customers have started to make use of single sourcing and Palmako’s logistics solutions definitely support this. Today, Palmako’s logistics focus is in Europe, but with container transport we can reach nearly any container port in the world.
