Palmako’s subsidiary Imprest wins WPA Quality Award in UK

Palmako’s subsidiary AS Imprest is a proud winner of the WPA (Wood Protection Association) Treated Wood Quality Excellence award 2018. The Award was given for producing wood products under WPA Benchmark scheme for preservative pre-treated wood. Nominations for this Award are made exclusively by WPA quality scheme auditors. Estonian based AS Imprest recognise that third-party quality assurance was a key factor to building customer confidence and succeeding in the UK treated wood market.

WPA Chairman Stephen J Young comments: „Imprest joined the WPA Benchmark quality scheme in 2013 and has consistently demonstrated its commitment to maintaining certification ever since. They are among the elite of wood treaters in Europe and deserve their Award for quality from the WPA.“

Imprest Stock and Delivery Manager Tõnis Tagel, who received the award, says: “We are really proud to be winners of our WPA award. We have worked hard together with our treatment chemical supplier to achieve the best treatment quality for our Premium Range products.”

WPA is the technical and advisory organization for the wood pre-treating industry in the UK dedicated to improving the performance of wood as the sustainable construction material of choice. One of the goals of the WPA is to improve the time of use of treated timber through a unified treatment standard. In order to achieve this the organisation takes part in preparation and provision of British treatment standards and is advisory body in implementing the standards.

From July 2013 Imprest Premium Range products are certified under the WPA auditing scheme and are valid to carry “Benchmark” logo. Imprest is the first non-UK producer to be awarded this accolade.

The winners of the 2018 Awards were announced at a celebratory reception and dinner on Wednesday 11 April in Derby, UK. Networking event preceeded the WPA Making the Most of Wood Conference that took place the following day.

The WPA Benchmark is a third-party quality scheme for wood treated with a preservative by impregnation. It is operated by the Wood Protection Association, the UK technical and advisory body for use of the use of industrial wood protection technology. WPA Benchmark was established in 2011 as a means for those placing treated wood on the UK market to reassure buyers that the product they have bought is treated correctly for its end use in line with the requirements of British Standard BS 8417. The scheme certificates the actual treated product and verifies that it has been treated to deliver the service life specified in BS8417 – 15, 30 for ground contact timber or 60 years for internal construction timber. The scheme is reinforced by a wood preservative approval scheme that specifies the minimum amount of preservative to be retained in the product after treatment.
